There is something so magical and refreshing about beginning a new year. Whether 2015 was an exciting and fulfilling year for you, or a difficult one, I think everyone embraces the end of one year and the beginning of another. Perhaps a fresh start? Or a chance to reflect, plan, and feel invigorated for the year ahead. I have thrown the “R” word out the window this year (AKA: Resolutions) and have decided to challenge myself to a few goals, and changes to improve my daily life whether that be in my career, relationship, fitness, or well-being. I know I am a few days late on a New Year’s post, but I still wanted to share some goals I have set for myself in 2016:
Pick up the phone and call friends and family | I have to admit, with Facebook and Instagram it is so easy to get a play by play of what is happening in everyones life. So much that instead of connecting with people in person or over the phone, you connect with them on social media. It is kind of a double edge sword because it is so great to see what your friends and family are up to, but then you don’t feel the need to call or stay in touch as much. I am also guilty of texting as well. There is just something so much more intimate about a one on one chat with one of your best friends or your mother. Whether it be a 5 min conversation while I am running errands, or an hour, I am challenging myself to make the time!
Drink more water | It is not uncommon for me to go an entire day without drinking any water. So terrible, I know! It is not that I am addicted to sodas (just coffee 😉 ) or anything like that, it is just not something I think about going throughout my day. Staying hydrated is so important, I am not trying to drink a gallon a day here, (seriously, those of you who do that- how many times do you go to the bathroom a day?) but concentrate on having water with me throughout the day.
Organization & Time Management | I will be the first to admit, I am no “type A”, I like to think of my life as a bit of organized chaos (To give you an idea, I currently have 49,392 emails in my inbox…. I probably gave some of you a heart attack with just that right there). This drives my boyfriend crazy sometimes because he is the complete opposite, (opposites attract, right?!) I think that I even stress him out with my “waiting until the last minute” and “ohhh it will work out” methods. I will admit, while I do not stress over details, this sometimes causes me to not maximize the short 24 hours in a day. I am busy fishing through my emails, or running around at the very last minute, getting flustered, when I could have saved myself from these inconveniences by just staying a bit more organized. What are some of your favorite organization/life management tips? Whether it be a planner, apps you use, or small tricks. Tell. Me. Everything.
Unplug | Okay, I feel like this one was probably on just about everyones list. Our phones and social media are great, so great. Trust me, I love scrolling through Instagram, Pinterest, texting my friends, watching ridiculous videos, and taking Buzzfeed quizzes about which Disney Princess I would be. This past year, sometimes I would catch myself putting my phone down only to feel anxious 5 minutes later, and then pick it back up and start scrolling through Instagram. Absolutely ridiculous, I know. In 2016 I am making it a priority to put the damn phone down. Read more books, watch the news, journal (I love journaling), cook. I can’t tell you how many things my phone, and “being connected” has taken priority over. Once again, do you guys have any tips on how you unplug?
Healthy Lifestyle Change | I can’t think of a female who doesn’t have a fitness goal in mind for the new year, myself included. I am dedicating an entire post to that here soon, but the first step has been making better choices when it comes to my diet (my current diet consists of chicken fingers, guacamole, and diet coke), and a new fitness routine. So far I have been doing pretty well with this goal, making better eating choices, and working out with my amazing trainer at Royal Personal Training! I am not going to lie, I am fairly impatient and hate not seeing results immediately #impatient #Igetitfrommydad. But it is important to keep in mind that this is not an overnight transformation or about losing weight, but a lifestyle change. I am so excited to share more about my fitness journey with you all here soon!
I am so excited to take on these challenges and goals I have set for myself in 2016! What about you guys? What are some of your goals for the year?
Now a little bit on this amazing outfit! This has basically been my winter uniform this season: cozy sweater, statement earrings, bold lip, and booties or boots! These suede fringe booties have been one of my absolute favorite purchases!
