Allow me to reintroduce you to my first child, who is no stranger here on the blog or on my Instagram. The sweetest pup I’ve ever met, Ellie, aka “the majestic sloth”. We nicknamed her that because for as long as we can remember she has been very slow moving, lazy, and sweet. Therefore she earned herself the nickname, “majestic sloth”. However, with some recent changes to her diet she’s been slothin’ no more and more active than ever.
Ellie turned nine in March of this year. While I know we still have a lot of memories to make together, I am also aware that it is my responsibility to make her health and wellness a top priority as she ages as she is officially a senior dog. Did you know, according to a new survey by Purina ONE that 83% of dog owners do not know when their dog becomes a senior? Just like you feed puppies special food to get the nutrients they need, you need to do the same with senior dogs. Only the best for my best friend.
About a month ago I switched her food over to Purina ONE Vibrant Maturity Senior Dog Food. Along with switching her food we committed to the 28 Day Challenge, which means over the next 28 days I continue to feed Ellie the recommended amount of Purina ONE Vibrant Maturity Senior Dog Food and observe the changes in her energy, coat, eyes, joints, and immune system. With a new puppy in my house, I was eager to start this challenge in hopes that Ellie would entertain her pesky puppy brother a bit more who was always ready to play!
The first thing I was pleased with is that Ellie actually liked the Purina ONE Vibrant Maturity Senior Dog Food. She’s a pretty picky eater and has usually been more of a grazer when it came to eating her food but y’all she has been scarfing it down. It’s so funny! Secondly, around the third week of her challenge when I picked her up from her grooming appointment they made a comment about how healthy, shiny, and well taken care of her coat was. As you can imagine, I was so proud! That’s my child! Haha
Another moment that stood out to me during the 28 Day Challenge was while my parents were keeping the pups for me while I was out of town traveling. My mom called me and said how playful Ellie was being with the other pups (she usually minds her business and sleeps) and that she jumped up in the back of my dads pick up truck! I can also see the changes in how she interacts with her little brother Banks. They like to run around in circles in the backyard which is so dang funny.
If you have a senior dog, I would highly suggest looking into your dogs diet and taking the 28 Day Challenge with Purina ONE as well. All in all, I have been very pleased with the results and look forward to many more active, and healthy years ahead with my best friend!
