If you follow along on my Instagram you probably saw that I recently returned from Cancun, which has become one of my favorite spots in Mexico. With Mexico being just a short 2 hour flight away from Texas I have been there multiple times over the years… the beautiful beaches, friendly people and endless activities always keep me coming back! I actually have 3 other trips planned there this summer alone! Haha… what can I say, I love it! This last trip was a little girls weekend getaway with one of my best friends, Stephanie, and two of my blogger besties Whitney and Jacyln. During our visit we stayed at both the Marriott Cancun and the JW Marriott which are both properties included in the Paradise by Marriott cluster which includes beautiful resorts in both Mexico and the Caribbean. I’ve stayed at Marriott properties before, but these were on another level of beautiful! From the moment we walked in and were greeted it immediately felt like home. Sigh…take me back. Literally just got up and moved to work poolside to finish writing this post so it almosttttt (okay thats a stretch) feels like I am back in Cancun on the beautiful beach.
Speaking of the pool, my apartment pool is looking very sad right now compared to the pools at the Marriott Cancun and JW Marriott. My favorite of the properties was probably the stunning infinity pool at the JW. It literally looked like it ran over straight into the ocean. We spent quite a bit of time lounging by the pool eating chips and guac (literally might or might notttt have ordered every day). Both properties were so well maintained, always clean and perfectly groomed everywhere we set foot. One thing I also loved is that every time I ever passed a staff member I was instantly greeted with a smile. I have stayed a ton of places, from luxury resorts and hotels to hostels and air bnbs…. the staff and management make all the difference. There wasn’t a day that I didn’t feel welcome and valued as a guest staying there.
Our rooms at both the Marriott Cancun and JW Marriott were wonderful. Both had a beautiful pool and ocean view. I am that person who always requests a room with a view… that is the first thing I love to wake up to in the morning while enjoying my coffee. Both views were stunning. If you are familiar with Marriott properties then I am sure you know that the JW Mariotts are more of their upscale properties, so I will say the rooms at the JW Marriott were more modern and spacious out of the two. I am a sucker for a good bathtub and the luxurious tub at the JW did not disappoint!
Before I dive into the dining in restaurants I do want to point out that the properties are not all inclusive. However, I found the prices to be very reasonable and the food was some of the best I’ve had at a resort. Between both properties there were over 10+ restaurants to choose from! My two favorites were Sedona grill and Sasi Tai. Sedona grill is authentic Mexican food (I don’t ever discriminate when it comes to Mexican food… I love it all!), we had heard that on Fridays they have a huge buffet so we made sure to check that out and omg I’ve never been so miserably full and happy in my life. I think I had 3 full plates + dessert… and the chef was even so sweet and accommodating and brought us a heaping bowl of guac. Marry me. My other favorite was Sasi Tai which we had on our very first night! They had the cutest outdoor dining area (almost like we were in Bali), we sipped on some cocktails and had dumplings + phad thai. Let’s just say none of us ever got hangry on this trip because we were always eating, and everything was amazing!
Holy moly where do I even begin here? The spa which is located at the JW Marriott was just absolutely incredible. Complete with a lap pool (which had the most incredible floor to ceiling windows boasting ocean views), steam room, juice bar, tennis courts….the list goes on. We were all treated to 90 minute massages but I could have laid there for hours! My massage therapist was professional, polite, and sooooo good! I wish we could have hung out at the spa all day but the beach and sunshine were calling our name!
We capped off our trip by spending our last full day at one of my favorite islands, Isla Mujeres which is about a 20 min ferry ride away! If you are ever in Cancun it is a must visit! Rent a golf cart and spend the day relaxing on the beautiful white beaches, and be sure to have some margs at the Soggy Peso (warning, they are DANGEROUS… don’t have more than 2)! All in all this was one of the best girls trips I’ve ever been on! If you have any questions at all about our stay, the properties, anything at all please feel free to reach out! I am more than happy to help and provide any additional input or info!
**Thank you so much to Paradise by Marriott for hosting us at both properties for the ultimate girls weekend. I love sharing all my travels with you guys, and as always, opinions are 100% my own.*
